Pasadena, California A robotlike spacecraft circulating Mars has snarled the first image of a serial of active avalanches near the planet’s north pole, scientists said Monday.

The mental image, taken last calendar month, reveals at least four avalanches of fine ice and dust breakage off from a steep drop and subsidence on the side below.
